Nutrition Facts

ExtendBar has an excellent nutritional profile, offering a good balance of carbohydrate, protein, and fat.  ExtendBar is available in two different formulations – Crunch and Delight.  The Delight formula has three sugar-free flavors and two flavors with only 1 gram of sugar. The two Crunch flavors both contain 10 grams of sugar.

Glycemic Index

All ExtendBar flavors have a low glycemic index (GI), and our ExtendBar Delight flavors also have a low glycemic load (GL), as shown below.

The glycemic index (GI) ranks carbohydrates according to their effect on blood glucose levels.  Carbohydrate foods with a low glycemic index cause only small fluctuations in blood glucose and insulin levels.  Selecting foods with a low glycemic index can help you better manage or prevent diabetes, reduce long-term health risks, help you lose weight and sustain it, and prolong physical performance.

How to Count the Carbs in ExtendBar

If you are counting your carbs – whether it’s to help you manage your meal plan or determine if an adjustment to your insulin is appropriate – count only the carbohydrates in ExtendBar that have a short-term impact on blood sugar.  These carbohydrates are referred to as “faster-acting” or “net carbs”.  The remaining carbohydrates, “slower acting”, convert slowly to blood sugar and therefore, have minimal impact on blood sugar. 

Based on clinically conducted continuous glucose monitoring, only 1-2 of the total 21 grams of carbohydrate in the Delight flavors have a short-term impact on blood sugar.  Fiber, glycerine, maltitol, and uncooked cornstarch convert slowly and have minimal impact on blood sugar.  Only 10-11 of the total carbohydrates in the Crunch flavors have a short-term impact on blood sugar; uncooked cornstarch, maltitol, and fructose are slower acting carbohydrates.

Ingredient List

Careful consideration was taken in selecting the ingredients for both ExtendBar formulas.  We looked for ingredients with a low glycemic index to enhance ExtendBar’s ability to stabilize blood sugar levels and minimize any rise in blood sugar from eating the bar. The glycemic index is a measurement of how quickly a particular food converts to glucose (blood sugar) in your body. The lower the glycemic index, the less likely a food will be to cause high blood sugar after eating it. 

The resulting ExtendBar formulas are unique in their ability to convert to blood sugar so gradually and have already been awarded 12 patents.  ExtendBar is clinically proven to help you:

• Control hunger by suppressing appetite
• Avoid low blood sugar, even overnight

Gluten Free Products

ExtendBar Delights are Gluten-Free. If you have been diagnosed with celiac disease or have gluten or wheat intolerances, we know that you're looking for more than just a gluten-free label. We have taken the following steps to confirm the gluten-free status of ExtendBar Delights:

1. All the ingredients are gluten free.
2. Products were tested for gluten content using testing protocols and test systems recognized and/or approved by the following organizations: GFCO (Gluten Free Certification Organization) and CODEX and is used by the Food Allergen Research and Resource Program from the University of Nebraska (considered to be the premier source for food allergen information worldwide).
3. We use the ELISA RIDASCREEN® Gliadin and the RIDASCREEN® FAST Gliadin that employs the R5-antibody which is able to efficiently quantify proalmins from wheat, barley, and rye at a level of 100%.
4. Our test results and test methods are in compliance with the US FDA's proposed rule for Gluten Free Foods (On Jan. 22, 2007 the FDA posted to the Federal Register a Proposed Rule for Labeling Gluten-Free Labeling of Foods (Docket No. 2005N-0279)
5. Our test results and test methods are in compliance with Canadian, European, and Australian standards for Gluten-Free foods.

Please note: Our two Original Crunch formula flavors (Chocolate Crunch and Peanut Butter Crunch) are NOT gluten free as they contain a small amount of barley malt extract.
