It's Diabetes Blog Week, hosted by Karen Greffeo from Bittersweet Diabetes. Each day calls for a diabetes post with a different theme.
Today's topic is "Find a Friend", in which we talk about friends and loved ones that have supported and helped people with diabetes.
Who Would Be Your Go-To Friend?
Diabetes can often make people isolated and alone when in the company of those who don't suffer from it. That's why it's especially meaningful when a friend or loved one makes the extra effort to understand and help with the physical and emotional roller coaster that comes along with the disease.
Today's Diabetes Blog Week theme is 'Find a Friend', for which we should all take a minute to think about the friends that help to support people with diabetes. It might be a family member, a close friend, or even a medical professional who has gone out of their way to help someone with diabetes.
Our friend for today is Alexis Pollack, who we talked to last week about her blog 'I Run On Insulin'. We find Alexis' blog to be both relatable and inspiring as she chronicles her day-to-day life with type 1 diabetes. Alexis mentioned that some followers of her blog don't even have diabetes, rather they are just friends or loved ones of someone suffering from the disease and they emailed Alexis to say that her blog helped them to understand what it's like to live with diabetes. Listen to the clip below to hear that part of our interview with her.
For that, we give Alexis a shout-out on 'Find a Friend' day for this Diabetes Blog Week.
