Tips to Make Your Life Healthier

As a team member of Extend Nutrition and a health enthusiast, I am always on the lookout for great ideas and tips on how to eat healthy.

One of my favorite ideas of late - because it is easy, effective and the perfect way to incorporate a healthy snack such as Extend Nutrition into a diabetic diet – is the “plate method.”

This method is ideal for someone who is struggling to find a healthy way to eat or for those - like me – who just need to be reminded. To get started all you need is a plate.

The focus is on filling your plate with more vegetables, less starchy foods and meats. You can do this at home or when dining out.

Here’s how, as suggested by the American Diabetes Association:

The Plate Method

* Just draw an imaginary down the middle of your plate. Then on one side cut it again so you have three sections on your plate.

*Fill the largest section with non-starchy vegetables such as: lettuce, carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, spinach, onion, cauliflower.

*In one of the small sections, put starchy foods in such as: whole grain breads, such as whole wheat or rye, rice, potatoes, cooked beans, whole grain, high-fiber cereal.

*In the other small section, put your meat or meat substitute in such as: chicken or turkey without the skin, fish (tuna, salmon, cod or catfish), lean cuts of beef and pork such as sirloin.

*Add an ounce glass of milk and one small piece of fruit.

You can always replace the milk with an extra piece of fruit, small yogurt or a small roll if you don’t drink milk.

Snacks should contain a blend of lean protein, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats.

This is especially important for a diabetic diet or for anyone who wants to be healthier: to control hunger, lose weight or sustain energy.

That is where Extend Nutrition comes into play.

Extend Nutrition Diabetic SnacksThe snacks were created by Dr. Francine Kaufman, world-renowned endocrinologist and past president of the American Diabetes Association, and are the only ones clinically proven to control blood sugar for up to 9 hours.

Any Extend Snack can be placed in the "starch" section as an exceptionally healthy choice! That's because of the "extended-action carbohydrates" which last for up to 9 hours.

The full line, which includes 17 total flavors with both sweet and savory choices, is perfect for a diabetic diet or any healthy diet in general.

So in this case, you really can have your dessert and eat it too.

Using fun and creative ideas like the “plate method” and superior snacks such as those created by Extend Nutrition is one way to make your life healthier.
