The glycemic index of a food, or GI, tells you how quickly the food will cause your blood sugar levels to rise – the higher the GI, the higher the spike in blood sugar.
You can easily lower the GI of a meal or snack just by sprinkling a couple of teaspoons of lemon juice on it! (Source)
